Office COVID-19 Precautions

Chiropractic safety measures to prevent spreading COVID-19

The International Chiropractors Association, Centers for Disease Control and the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards view chiropractors as providers of essential healthcare services. It is important that we institute office COVID-19 precautions.

Above all, our office has a responsibility and commitment to be here for our patients and the safety of our patients and staff is of the utmost importance. To ensure that safety, we take extraordinary measures to make sure our patients receive the care you and your family need.

Here are some of our office COVID-19 protocols our office follows to be a Corona Free Zone:

1.) Staff temperatures are taken daily and checked for signs or symptoms of illness to ensure they may come to, and stay at work.

2.) Patients are screened when calling for appointments to ensure they have not:

a.) Traveled outside of the state or country in the last 14 days.

b.) Had contact with anyone with confirmed COVID-19 in the last 14 days.

c.) Experienced: higher levels than normal of fatigue, fever greater than 100°, difficulty breathing or coughing episodes.

If patients answer “yes” to any of the above questions they will be referred to their primary care doctor to be screened for COVID-19 before being allowed to schedule an appointment. Also, in 20 years of practice, it’s very rare for patients to choose to come to our office with any acute symptoms of an illness (severe cough/fever/etc.).

If you are not feeling well, stay home, rest and recover.

3.) Our patient’s temperatures are taken with infared thermometers upon entrance to the office. Infared thermometers allow us to take temperatures without contacting patients skin.

4.) Door knobs, arm rests, and other frequently touched surfaces are wiped down with disinfectant every 30 minutes.

5.) Treatment rooms and therapy equipment are wiped down after every patient.

6.) Providers wear masks when seeing patients and wash their hands between every patient visit.

7.) Trash is emptied every 30 minutes.

8.) We make sure that patients are scheduled no more than one patient per provider per 15 minutes to maintain social distancing practices.

9.) Patients are encouraged to call from the parking lot when they arrive at the office. Front desk staff can let you know when the previous patient has finished their appointment so you can come in and go straight to your treatment room.

10.) We request that ONLY the patient being treated and any necessary assistants, caregivers or dependents come to the office.

What can you do at home to protect yourself from COVID-19?

At this time, there is no credible scientific evidence to support any type of treatment for people infected with the Coronavirus.  That means we must rely on our immune systems to protect us from infection. Here are some things you can do RIGHT NOW to boost your immune system.

1.) Stay hydrated. Divide your body weight by 2 and drink that many ounces of water every day. For example: A 160 pound person should drink 80 ounces of water (160 / 2 = 80) or roughly seven 12 ounce glasses of water.

2.) Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and AVOID processed and sugary foods. Research has shown that consuming 100 grams of sugar solution (e.g. soda, energy drinks and fruit juice) can impair your immune system for up to 5 hours!  If 100 grams seems like a lot, one can of soda has 39 grams of sugar.  Great nutritional supplements for the immune system include vitamin D3 and vitamin C. If you don’t want to wander through the empty shelves at King Soopers, visit our Pure Encapsulations Store.  For those of you that are used to using Elderberry syrups ans supplements, you may want to think twice. 

Research shows that Elderberry syrup may not be useful when dealing with the coronavirus.

3.) Get outside and get some sun. If you have a secluded patio area or private yard, take advantage of it. The vitamin D that your body makes will help your immune system and without a doubt, the fresh air will help keep you from going “stir crazy”.

4.) If you are at home, try to get some exercise. You don’t need expensive equipment to get a good workout. Deep knee bends, lunges and push ups (if you are able) are also great ways to get your heart pumping. If those are too much, take a lap (or 10) from the living room to the kitchen and loop through your bedroom. Remember, sitting all day is what got most of you in our office with neck and back pain in the first place!

5.) Spend quality time with your family.

6.) Sleep is always important, especially when stress levels are elevated. Try to get at least 7 hours of sleep per night is a great goal!

*7.) CBD may help prevent the most serious symptoms associated with coronavirus. Importantly, one of the most dangerous aspects of COVID-19 infection is the viruses affect on the lungs. When the virus infects the lungs, the immune system can “overreact” and flood the area with inflammatory cytokines.

  “Cytokine storms” can cause pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome, and respiratory failure. 

CBD has been shown to inhibit cytokine production (see the studies here, here, and here). This is important because it can potentially help prevent the overload of cytokines in a coronavirus infected person and possibly help prevent their condition from becoming critical.

8.) Finally, try not to stress out! Stress and anxiety only weaken your immune system. If the news and social media decrease your anxiety, stick with it, but if those things make you feel worse, take a break and do something you enjoy. Deep breathing exercises, yoga, meditation, and/or prayer are also great ways to manage stress.
